Writing
with an eBeam marker sleeve is slightly different than writing
with a plain marker. (This section assumes the
battery has been installed in the sleeve and an EXPO
marker has been inserted properly.)
Please note, most of the information below also pertains
to using the eBeam eraser.
To
draw, press down on your whiteboard with the marker
tip and lift the marker tip from the board to end
a marker stroke. A
small amount of force may be required to activate
the signal from the sleeve. Note:
You cannot draw with 2 markers at one time. The pods
can only track one sleeve (or eraser) at a time.
When
the sleeve is sending drawing information to the hardware,
it emits a slight buzzing sound which you may be able
to hear. Everything you draw on your whiteboard should
appear on the visual display of the eBeam application
on your PC.
Note:
Within the eBeam software, you can scroll or zoom
in on current or previously captured data. The most
common cause for data "disappearing" is
that you have changed views and are not looking
at the current virtual board view.
For more information, please review
the Current View section.
Marker
or Eraser Strokes Not Appearing
A number of factors can cause your EXPO marker and
eraser to draw/erase inconsistently or not at all:
- Warped
Board - eBeam requires a flat whiteboard
surface. If you place the pods on a board that is
bowed or warped badly, the pods' "line of
sight" to the marker sleeve will be compromised,
and the data may not be captured correctly. Make
certain the whiteboard is not curved or warped.
- Pods
Blocked - Make sure you do not place your
hand or arm on the whiteboard between the sleeve
and the pods. If you block the hardware, it cannot
sense where you move your marker.
- Sleeve
Blocked - The
signal transmitter is in the marker sleeve just
behind the tip of the marker. Grasp the sleeve a
little behind the tip so that your fingers do not
block the signal.
-
Drawing
Pressure - Try
pressing slightly harder as you draw. It is possible
to draw lightly enough that no signal is sent to
the hardware. Also, writing too quickly can sometimes
cause skips in the image captured.
- Low
Battery - If
the battery in the sleeve has run low enough, there
may not be enough power to send the signal. Replace
the batteries or try a different marker sleeve.
- Noisy
Environment - There may be intermittent
or low level infrared interference in your work
area. It may be necessary to move eBeam to another
area.
- Drawing
in Non-recordable Areas - Depending
on the placement of the pods and the size of the
whiteboard you are using, it is possible to draw
in "non-recordable" areas.
eBeam can retrofit
any existing whiteboard from 1.5 to 8 feet wide
and up to 4 feet high. When
eBeam launches, it automatically calibrates the
width and height capture area based on the distance
between the pods. The capture width is the distance
between the pods, up to 8 feet. The capture height
is calculated at 3/4 of the distance between the
left and right pods, but cannot exceed 4 feet.
For example, on an 8x6 foot board, 3/4 of the
distance is 6 feet. However, as just mentioned,
the height of the capture area cannot exceed 4
feet. When eBeam auto calibrates, the writing
area supported would be calculated as 8x4, with
the 4 foot capture height extending from the pods
down. In
this example, there would be 2 feet of whiteboard
that would be "dead" are and which would
not be captured should you write in it.

the batteries are new, the environment is sound,
and the marks or erasures still do not appear,
